Beavers & Sea Otters – Panel Discussion hosted by The Beaver Institute
May 8 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
Dive into the fascinating world of aquatic marvels in our upcoming webinar, “Beavers and Sea Otters,” on May 8th at 11am PT / 12 pm MT / 1pm CT / 2pm ET. Sleek waterproof fur and webbed feet are just a few of the remarkable similarities between these two mammals who share a gift for shaping their environments. With the help of our Oregon-based panelists Michelle St. Martin of U.S. Fish and Wildlife, Chanel Hason of the Elakha Alliance, and Peter Hatch of the Confederated Siletz Indians, we will learn more about sea otters and their significance as a keystone species.

Much like beavers, sea otters in Oregon became locally extinct in the late 19th century due to fur trading and conflicts with fishers. Now, efforts are underway to restore populations along the coast thereby creating a more resilient marine ecosystem. Join us for a discussion on sea otter reintroduction efforts, and what they can tell us about our relationship with their freshwater counterpart the beaver, followed by a Q & A session with the experts.
