This February, the Oregon Legislature has a chance to secure long-term funding for Oregon’s most vulnerable fish, wildlife, and habitats.
For decades, the Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife has lacked a dedicated funding source to protect most wildlife species – leaving many animals and ecosystems without the support they need to recover.
The 1.25% for Wildlife bill would help fix this by increasing Oregon’s statewide Transient Lodging Tax from 1.5% to 2.75% and dedicating the additional revenue to wildlife and habitat conservation statewide. Even with this increase, Oregon’s lodging tax would remain among the lowest in the nation, with most of the cost paid by out-of-state visitors.
This bill passed the Oregon House in 2025 but stalled in the Senate. The 2026 session is our chance to finish the job.
