World Otter Day Trivia – Northwest Portland Hostel

Calling all trivia nerds, ocean lovers, and future otter champions! Celebrate World Otter Day with us at the Northwest Portland Hostel Cafe for an evening packed with laughs, weird wildlife facts, tasty drinks, and some seriously competitive otter trivia.

Gather your smartest sea-savvy friends and dive into trivia rounds all about sea otters, river otters, marine life, and Oregon’s coastal ecosystems – all while supporting the incredible work of the Elakha Alliance to restore sea otters back to the Oregon coast.

We’re also excited to welcome Dr. Heide Island, who will be joining the festivities to share and promote her recent publication, Romp!, all about the playful and fascinating world of river otters (read more below).

Sip on delicious brews, snack on Hostel Cafe bites, and prepare to learn things you never knew you needed to know about the fluffiest marine mammals on Earth.

Biography for Dr. Heide Island:
Heide Island, PhD, is a professor of biological psychology and behavioral ecology at Pacific University and a member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Otter Specialist Group. Her research on the welfare of captive and wild otter populations in the Pacific Northwest, including her longitudinal study of Whidbey Island’s otters, has been published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at conferences. She splits her time between a cabin on Whidbey Island, Washington, and a farm in McMinnville, Oregon, with her husband, Tom, and their dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, and honeybees.
