Where Have All the Sea Otters Gone?

Oregon once had a flourishing population of sea otters. Since about 1910, we have had none. What happened? An overview of the history of the fur trade and local hunting in Oregon, tracing the disappearance of our sea otters, how it happened, and who some of the major players were.

Cameron is a coastal historian, and the Executive Director ofOregon Coast Alliance, a land use advocacy organization and the coastal affiliate of 1000Friends of Oregon. She is on the board of the Elakha Alliance, whose mission is to return sea otters to Oregon.
