As part of Sea Otter Awareness Week, we’re bringing together leading voices in Oregon to discuss how our state is preparing for the possible return of sea otters to our coastal waters.
Sea otters once thrived along the Oregon coast, playing a vital role in the health of kelp forests and nearshore ecosystems. While these charismatic marine mammals have been absent for over a century, exciting work is underway to prepare for their potential comeback.
Join us for this special conversation featuring:
-
Chanel Hason, Elakha Alliance 🦦 – sharing the vision for sea otter restoration and community engagement efforts.
-
Amy Hash, Oregon Zoo 🐾 – highlighting research, partnerships, and conservation planning in support of sea otter recovery.
-
Brittany Blades & Margot Langan, Oregon Coast Aquarium 🌊 – discussing education, animal care expertise, and their brand new rehabilitation facility.
Together, these organizations are taking proactive steps to ensure that when sea otters return, Oregon’s coastal communities, ecosystems, and institutions are ready to welcome them home.
