Redfish Rocks on the Dock

The Redfish Rocks on the Dock community event will occur on Saturday, Aug. 26, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. from the Battle Rock Visitor Center (520 Jefferson St in Port Orford) to the Port of Port Orford (300 Dock Rd). The Elakha Alliance will be tabling at the event, so come say hello!

With a theme of 10 Years of Marine Stewardship, the event will include a variety of organizations, kayak tours provided by South Coast Tours, and tours of commercial fishing vessels. With live music by Dry Spell, tacos from Port Orford Sustainable Seafood, and games with prizes, there’s something for everyone!

This summer, the Redfish Rocks Community Team will be joined by 3 interns. Sof Fox and Connor Gonzales are both Oregon Sea Grant Summer Scholars, and Grant Marschall is an intern with the Marine Studies Initiative. They will be doing Marine Reserve Interpretation and Science Communication, as well as assisting with juvenile fish recruitment monitoring. Last week, they conducted the first sampling of the season, collecting 324 juvenile fishes, which is showing a great increase from last year’s monitoring efforts!
