SUMMARY:2026 Oregon Otter Beer Festival
DESCRIPTION:PURCHASE TICKETS\nJoin the Elakha Alliance and the Oregon Zoo for our biggest and most anticipated fundraiser of the year – celebrating five incredible years of conservation\, community\, and craft beverages! This otter-ly unforgettable evening will highlight Oregon’s vibrant beverage scene while trying to fundraise to restore sea otters and strengthen our coastal ecosystems. \nIn 2025\, together we raised over $36\,000 to support sea otter conservation – and now\, we’re aiming even higher to make an even bigger splash for Oregon’s ocean future with a goal of $50\,000! \nThis year’s festival is more than a beer event – it’s a full celebration of Oregon’s beverage artistry. Breweries will craft special sea otter-themed beers using Maris Otter Malt\, alongside offerings from local wineries\, ciders\, and more. Guests can sip\, sample\, and vote for their favorite creations while a panel of expert judges crowns the top otter-inspired beverages. \nThe evening will also feature: \n Raffle & Silent Auction with local artwork\, adventure packages\, and unique gifts.\n Live painting by artist Mike Bennett of sea otters on a surfboard for the silent auction.\n Bryson Wallace (whom you might know from KMHD) will DJ to set the vibe.\n  La Petite Tattoo showcasing their special ocean-themed flash tattoos benefiting Elakha in May with four female artists. Beer fest guests will be the first to reserve their appointments!\n Ottie’s Oreo Vegan Ice Cream Samples from Kate’s Ice Cream.\n The Traveling Typist providing On the Spot poetry.\n Get some beautiful body art from The Henna Queen.\n  Bring in an old shirt or canvas bag for Wombat Wisdoms to block print with ocean creatures.\n Engaging trivia celebrating Oregon’s sea otters and marine restoration efforts.\n Tasty eats from Epicurean.\n Photo Booth to capture all the memories. \nFounded by tribal and conservation leaders\, the Elakha Alliance is dedicated to returning sea otters to Oregon’s coast and revitalizing the ecosystems they help sustain. Your support at this milestone event directly fuels that vision. \nCome raise a glass (or two) to five years of impact and a sea otter-filled future! For more information\, contact Chanel@ElakhaAlliance.org

SUMMARY:Eat Like an Otter with Shifting Tides
DESCRIPTION:Join for an immersive food experience that will bring you closer to our oceans bounty as well as the species that depend on and impact our healthy coastal ecosystems! This event will be a unique mix of coastal foraging demonstrations\, learning about the charismatic sea otter\, their disappearance and hopes for reintroduction as well as enjoying a bites of local shellfish and seaweeds. \nSECURE YOUR SPOT\nOnce abundant across the North Pacific\, sea otters were aggressively hunted during the maritime fur trade for their rich fur pelts\, resulting in a loss of 99% of the global population. While the species has recovered along much of its range\, there has not been a population of this important keystone species in Oregon for over 100 years. The Elakha Alliance is an Oregon nonprofit working to build the science\, policy\, and community engagement to reintroduce a population of sea otters to the Oregon Coast and 10% of sales from this event will go to their ongoing efforts to bring sea otters back to Oregon!

SUMMARY:Restoring our Kelp Forests Webinar Series - Life in the Kelp: Predator\, Prey\, and Ecosystem Dynamics
DESCRIPTION:Dive into the hidden world of kelp forests—some of the planet’s most vital yet imperiled ecosystems. This webinar series explores the changing world of kelp\, from the challenges these vibrant ecosystems face to the passionate efforts underway to bring them back. Hear stories from scientists\, divers\, and community groups working to restore balance among keystone species and revive these essential ocean habitats. Discover how resilience\, balance\, and ingenuity are shaping the future of life along our coasts. \nRegister for Webinar\nThis series is brought to you by Seven Capes Bird Alliance in partnership with Friends of Otter Rock\, Oregon Shores Conservation Coalition\, Oregon Kelp Alliance\, and the Elakha Alliance. \nA large marine epidemic known as sea star wasting disease hit the Oregon coast in 2014. This caused an important sea urchin predator\, the sunflower sea star\, to decline by more than 98% in population size. This large\, fast\, up to 28-armed sea star influences urchin populations not only by directly consuming urchins\, but also by indirectly affecting their behavior through fear. The loss of this predator is linked to a 70% decline of Oregon’s kelp forests and an increase in urchin populations\, creating urchin-dominated barrens. Miles will walk us through his laboratory research\, where he quantified how many urchins a sunflower sea star can eat\, and his field experiments\, where he dove in Oregon’s cold turbulent waters to test the effect of sunflower sea star presence on urchin behavior and grazing.  \nMiles Rough is a Ph.D. student at the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology in the laboratory of Dr. Aaron Galloway. Miles is fascinated by kelp forest dynamics\, particularly the shifts between healthy ecosystems and urchin-dominated barrens. He uses field and laboratory experiments to understand the role of sunflower sea stars as a key predator influencing urchin populations and ecosystem stability. Miles is an AAUS scientific diver and SCUBA instructor\, using diving both to conduct research and to train others in underwater observation techniques. He earned his B.S. in Biology with a focus on Marine Biology from Oregon State University in 2024.

SUMMARY:We Otter Bring Them Back - Fundraising Campaign
DESCRIPTION:Sea otters once thrived along Oregon’s coast for thousands of years\, shaping healthy kelp forests and vibrant marine ecosystems. But after being hunted to local extinction during the maritime fur trade\, Oregon’s coastline lost one of its most important keystone species – and the ocean has felt the impact ever since. Now\, you can help change that story. \nThe Elakha Alliance is leading the effort to restore sea otters to Oregon’s coast\, and We Otter Bring Them Back is back for its second year as a month-long fundraising and social media campaign running June 8th–July 6th\, 2026! \nBy becoming an Otter Advocate\, you’ll help raise awareness and critical funds to support sea otter restoration\, community outreach\, education\, and advocacy efforts across Oregon. Whether you fundraise\, donate\, share posts online\, or simply help spread the word\, you become part of a growing movement working to restore balance to our coastal ecosystems. \nREGISTER TO BECOME AN OTTER ADVOCATE – AIM TO RAISE $250! \n🌊 Why Sea Otters Matter \nSea otters are a keystone species\, meaning they play a critical role in keeping marine ecosystems healthy. By feeding on sea urchins\, sea otters help kelp forests thrive – creating habitat for fish and wildlife\, increasing biodiversity\, supporting coastal resilience\, and even helping capture carbon. Bringing sea otters back means bringing life back to Oregon’s nearshore waters. \n🎉 Become an Otter Advocate \nRegister today to join the campaign and receive a limited-edition We Otter Bring Them Back campaign t-shirt with your registration donation! Adult short sleeve\, long sleeve\, and youth options are available. View shirt sizing information here. \nOnce registered\, you’ll create your own Givebutter fundraising page to share with friends\, family\, coworkers\, and fellow ocean lovers. Every Otter Advocate helps build momentum for this important cause. \n📸 Join the Movement \nTake your campaign shirt to the coast\, snap photos with friends and family\, share why you care about sea otters\, and help spread awareness on social media using #WeOtterBringThemBack and tagging @ElakhaAlliance. \n🎯 Our 2026 Goal: $12\,000 \nTogether\, we’re working to raise $12\,000 to support the continued effort to bring sea otters back to Oregon. Every dollar raised helps advance research\, outreach\, education\, and advocacy that move this vision closer to reality. \nThis is more than a fundraiser – it’s a movement to restore an entire ecosystem. \nDonate today\, become an Otter Advocate\, and help bring sea otters back where they belong. 🦦💙 \nQuestions? Meet us out at Yachats State Park at 10am for the Bioblitz\, and then join us at Wildcraft Cidery from noon-3 to meet some amazing ocean-inspired artists and educators. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nBioBlitzes are a community effort to record as many species in an area during a certain time period. Volunteers of all experience levels can document the species living in and around the Cape Perpetua area using the iNaturalist app and upload their photos and observations. We will have marine scientists and naturalists out in the field to help volunteers record and learn about the species they find. \nAfter tidepooling\, we will meet at Wildcraft Cider & Pantry to hold a community market with marine science organizations\, vendors\, and artists. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis is a free event\, but we ask that you register below so we can determine how many people to expect. If you want a limited edition Dreams of a Scientist + Cape Perpetua swag bag\, you can add that at registration! \nREGISTER HERE
