SUMMARY:North Coast KelpFest! (California)
DESCRIPTION:The first North Coast KelpFest! was held from mid-May to mid-June 2024\, bringing art\, science\, food and film together to tell the story of kelp forests on California’s north coast. Through a month long series of events\, communities from across Northern California were invited to the Mendocino coast to learn about and celebrate the ocean’s forests\, and connect with coastal ecosystems and culture in a meaningful way. The combination of innovative art + science\, ocean-oriented and kelp-inspired events hosted through KelpFest! engaged the hearts and minds of people of all ages and ethnicities. These events were designed to contribute to the success of kelp restoration efforts and ultimately create sustained appreciation and stewardship for this ocean ecosystem. \nThe Elakha Alliance is happy to be involved this year – come meet Kyle who will be tabling for us! \nThe second North Coast KelpFest! is happening in Mendocino and Fort Bragg October 3-6\, 2025. View the full schedule of events here. \nNorth Coast KelpFest! is a volunteer-powered collaboration.

SUMMARY:Wildlife Action Day - Salem\, OR
DESCRIPTION:Oregon’s wildlife have always depended on people who are willing to speak up. Again and again\, progress for wild places and imperiled species has come not from closed-door deals\, but from everyday Oregonians showing up\, sharing their stories\, and reminding lawmakers that they represent not only the people of Oregon\, but also our countless wildlife neighbors who make our state so special. \nOn February 11\, we have a powerful opportunity to do just that. Join Elakha Alliance and partners from across the state for Wildlife Action Day at the Oregon State Capitol in Salem\, where advocates will rally and meet directly with legislators in support of House Bill 4134\, also known as 1% for Wildlife. This legislation would provide stable\, dedicated funding to protect wildlife\, restore habitat\, and invest in long-term conservation solutions. \nSIGN UP TO ATTEND\nWhen you join us for this Action Day\, you’ll build confidence\, learn how change really happens\, and gain advocacy skills you can use for any issue you care about. You will learn how to communicate with elected officials\, share your values effectively\, and take part in a coordinated\, joyful day of action alongside people who care deeply about Oregon’s future. These are skills (and friendships!) that last long after the rally ends. \nThis Wildlife Action Day will include a rally at the Capitol\, followed by meetings with legislators. We will provide guidance every step of the way\, along with wildlife t-shirts\, snacks\, and refreshments. Please sign up so we know how many people are attending and what legislators represent you. No prior experience is needed\, just a willingness to show up and lend your voice. \n
